Sokoban-Lettres

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most

These answers cover how the game works, how progress is kept and what the online services do. The rules themselves are in the guide, and solving technique in advanced strategy.

The game

Is Sokoban-Lettres free?

Yes, without exception. There is no paid content, no subscription and no currency to buy. Development is funded by advertising, shown at transition points — never during the solving of a grid, where an interruption would wreck the reasoning in progress.

Do I need an account?

No. Progress is kept on the device from your first game, with no sign-up. Linking a Google account becomes useful for two things only: recovering your progress on another device, and appearing on leaderboards under a nickname rather than staying anonymous.

Can I play without a connection?

Yes. The game installs as a progressive web app and caches what it needs to play. What does require a connection: syncing across devices, leaderboards, downloading a challenge you do not have yet, and displaying ads. None of these blocks a game in progress.

Is there a timer?

Time is measured and feeds personal bests and leaderboards, but nothing expires. A grid can stay open as long as you like, and stopping for ten seconds before an irreversible push remains the best decision a player can make.

Grids and progress

Is every grid solvable?

At the start, yes. Each grid is built from a known solution and verified before being published. One push, however, can make it unsolvable: a crate cornered against two walls will never come out. That is the reason restarting exists, free and unlimited.

I have jammed a crate. What now?

If the deadlock is recent, undo will do. If it happened several moves ago, restarting is almost always better: it costs nothing, and starting again from an intact grid with what you have learned is faster than unwinding ten undos. The configurations that doom a grid are described in advanced strategy.

Why is undo limited when restarting is not?

Because they reward different things. Undoing move by move lets you fumble without thinking; restarting forces you to rebuild a plan. Making restart free and undo scarce pushes players to anticipate rather than guess, without ever trapping anyone in a lost game.

I lost my progress.

Three causes cover almost every case: the site's data was cleared from the browser settings, private browsing was used — it discards everything on close — or the device changed without a Google account having been linked. Synced progress comes back by signing in with the same account. Purely local progress that has been erased cannot be recovered, which is exactly what linking an account prevents.

How are the words chosen?

Adventure levels are grouped by theme, and word length increases through a chapter. A longer word means more crates and therefore more traffic constraints: that, more than the shape of the grid, is where difficulty comes from.

Daily Challenge

What happens if I miss a day?

The streak breaks. A recovery is offered within a limited window after the missed day; beyond it, the streak restarts from zero. Missed challenges do not disappear: the archive lets you play them at any time, with no effect on the current streak.

Does everyone get the same grid?

Yes, for a given date and language. That is what makes the daily leaderboard comparable: everyone solves exactly the same problem.

Why does the Daily Challenge change with the language?

Because the word to spell belongs to the language you picked. Changing language therefore changes the word of the day, and with it the grid.

Installing and platforms

How do I install the game on my phone?

From the browser, the menu offers “Add to home screen” or “Install app”. The game then opens full screen, with no address bar, and works offline. An Android application is also available.

What is the difference between the browser version and the Android app?

The game is the same: same rules, same modes, same syncable progress. The differences are platform ones. The browser serves ads through AdSense, the Android app through AdMob. The web version installs as a progressive web app; the Android version comes from the Play Store and opens the tutorial directly on first launch.

Is my progress shared between web and Android?

Only if the same Google account is linked on both sides. Without an account, each installation keeps its own progress on its own device.

Advertising and data

Why are there ads?

They fund a game offered with no purchase and no subscription. Placements are limited to transitions — entering a level, moving to the next — and an ad never interrupts a grid being solved. An optional ad may also be offered in exchange for an advantage; declining it never prevents you from progressing.

Can I change my privacy choices?

Yes, at any time, from the game settings under “Privacy”. The control reopens the consent window, where permission can be granted or withdrawn. What data is used is detailed on the privacy page.

Does an ad blocker stop me from playing?

No. If ads cannot load, the game carries on normally and the placements are simply skipped. Sokoban-Lettres does not display fake ad screens and never makes progress conditional on watching one.
